Record sales in India’s PC market, HP retains first place

Acer was among the companies that benefited the most from the recovery in the desktop category. It was ranked second in the commercial segment with a share of 25.8 percent.

HP retained its first position in the country’s personal computer (PC) market last year. HP shipped over 1.3 million units in the fourth quarter. The company has a market share of 31.5 percent and its shipments grew by 58.7 percent last year.

The PC market saw a record growth last year. Vendors shipped around 1.48 crore units. Work from home and better supply in many companies has led to an increase in demand.

Shipments of notebook computers increased to 11.6 million units and were a major contributor to the volume growth. Desktop computer sales grew nearly 30 percent on a year-on-year basis.

According to a report by International Data Corporation (IDC), HP has the largest share of PC shipments in the country.was the first place. Dell took second place with a market share of 23.6 percent.

The company shipped over one million units in both the third and fourth quarters. Dell was at the forefront of the enterprise segment with 38 per cent share. The company benefited from increased demand from IT and ITES companies.

According to the report, Lenovo ranked third in the fourth quarter and the entire previous calendar year. It registered a growth of 22.8 percent on a year-on-year basis.

Lenovo was second in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) segment after HP with a 24.7 per cent share. However, supply disruptions impacted the company’s overall shipments.

Acer and Asus were in fourth and fifth place. Both these companies retained their positions with 8.2 and 5.9 per cent stake respectively. The report said that in the desktop category, Acer was among the companies that took maximum advantage of the recovery.

It secured the second position in the commercial segment with a share of 25.8 per cent. Acer’s position in the commercial desktop market has remained strong over the years. Asus registered a growth of 36.1 percent last year. It performed well in the commercial segment with a year-on-year growth of 227.2 per cent.

There is a lot of competition among big companies to increase sales in India, which is included in the world’s largest PC market. Because of this, often these companies also offer discounts.
